Originally self-employed within the fruit & veg trade, it was 2001 and Huw and Sarah Jones were ready to take on their next entrepreneurial challenge. Huw travelled up North to the original home of fish & chips to learn what makes a great chippy work, and fast forward two years, the husband and wife team won the prestigious 'Best Fish & Chip Shop in the UK' award. Now a fully family-run business, Finnegans has expanded and developed into an award-winning multi-faceted business where quality is, and always will be, the number one priority.

It’s all about the food, right? That’s why we are always reassessing and adapting our product, listening to our customers and providing money-saving deals. Our innovative products such as Batterless Cod and Cod Goujons offer a modern twist on traditional fish and chips. We make mushy peas, chicken curry and tartare sauce fresh on the premises each day, with a cheaper Kid’s Meal option at each branch for those who want to keep an eye on portion control and costs.

We know there are lots of veggies out there (Huw’s daughter included), which is why we
offer items at our takeaway branches such as Pineapple Fritters and Cheese and Onion Rissoles, and even made sure at least one of our curry sauces is safe for vegetarians.
We filter our oil daily and change it frequently to ensure the highest quality end product and only use the finest ingredients to bring you a fantastic meal. Fish is skinless and de-boned and cut every day on premises and we make sure our potato suppliers only scout out the best in-season spuds to chip fresh every morning.

Cod It Be Magic?

Finnegans has always loved to help support local charities, schools and businesses relevant to each shop. Our main charity is The Fishermen's Mission in which every penny raised goes to the bereaved families of those who have lost their lives at sea in the often-dangerous job of fishing.

Sarah, alongside two of our managers, Tony and Andrew, ran the Cardiff Marathon for the charity, and combined with other long-term fundraising, has secured over £16,000 in the last ten years. We are proud to support other organisations such as the RNLI, LATCH, Bridgend Food Bank, Marie Curie, Samaritans, Poppy Appeal and Porthcawl Male Voice Choir and always donate towards each area's local school projects and fundraisers.

Huw and his son Jack have also recently taken part in a gruelling 500-mile cycling trip from Porthcawl to Paris in aid of Prostate Cancer and Velindre. Giving back to our loyal customers and welcoming communities is a huge part of our business and always will be.
